Gramophone Needles

Gram. Needles

The metal plate containing the model code had appeared on the 101 in 1929 but in 1930 it gave way to a circular ivorine disc that contained the machines model and serial number although without the colour code and version letter.

Given the features on this machine I understand it to be an LB101L and date it to 1930 possibly 1931. Such features include the ivorine disc, the use of the winding handle clips in the lid as on the later 102, 59 motor (replaced by the 270 on the M and N)  and the use of the No.4 autobrake.

Note: Despite looking "OK"  the LB101L suffered significant problems when playing.  A badly warped motor board which I had tried on a number of occasions to overcome plus never being really happy with the condition of some of the covering not apparent in the photos led to be revamping it.  I use revamp instead of restore as the result is a gramophone HMV never made.  Essentially a deluxe 101 in black.
